HelloNorthDakotaPAS.MynameisAdamJamesBalkand Iwasrecentlyelectedstatepresident.Iamexcitedtoholdthis positionandamhonoredtobechosentoleadthestate!Icome fromasmalltowncalledSawyer,about11milesSoutheastof Minot.IwasborninMinotandspentmyyoungeryearsinthe countryoutsideofSawyer.IngradeschoolatVelvaPublicSchoolI playedbasketballandtromboneinband.Istoppeddoingbothof thesethingswhenIwasafreshman.Itookshopclassandbegan workinginstead.ThiswasthepointwhereIwasinFFAforthree years.Iheldofficesasasecretary,mysophomoreyear,andVice Presidentmyjunioryear.Asasophomore,Ialsoheldthe reporter/webmasterpositionintheVelvaFBLAChapter.Iworked forKnorrFarm'safterschoolandontheweekendsasahiredman. Iworkedonequipment,drovetractor,aswellascleangrainbins. WhenIwasajunior,IdecidedIwantedtobeapartofthatVelva footballprogramthathadbeenwinningstatechampionshipsthe wholetimeIwasinhighschool.Thatisoneofthe accomplishmentsIammostproudof.Ihadneverplayedagamein mylifeandwasabletostartdefensivelineeverygameofour12‐0 Championshipseason.Itprovedtomethathardworkand determinationwasallIneededtogetwhatIwanted.After graduatingco‐salutatorianoftheclassof2007,Ibeganattending BismarckStateCollege.Iwaselectedthechaptervice‐president positionmyfreshmanyear.IattendedNationalPASinDallas whereItookfirstplaceinCareerPlanning,Agribusinessarea,and secondplaceinJobInterview,machinerytechnicianarea.Inmy sophomoreyear,IwaselectedpresidentoftheBSCchapter.At stateIwaselectedyourstatepresident.Iwillservemyterm throughtheendoftheschoolyearfromBismarckStateCollege. AftergraduationinMay,Iwillbehiredonfull‐timeasthe warehousemanagerofPoynter'sAgSupply. 1
